Pete GoodingBio

Pete Gooding is a club DJ, music producer, radio presenter, blogger and label boss. But way beyond any name or title he’s a music fan. In fact, Pete is a Music Man. Thanks to his broad musical taste, deep musical knowledge and boundless energy and enthusiasm; he’s one of the lucky few who have managed to turn ‘what I love’ into ‘what I do’. Pete does music full time, full on, all the time.

“I always have loads of energy because I’m always getting over excited by music, I have the same love for it I had at 15 years old when I first went to Amnesia in 1989!”

Pete Gooding lives in Ibiza where this story begins. He fell in love with house music at the age of 12 after being given a cassette of The House Sound Of Chicago Volume One by his older (and naughtier) sister. The Gooding family were regular summer visitors to the party island of Ibiza. And in 1989, the same sister took Pete, then a sweet, impressionable 15 year old on his first clubbing adventure – to Amnesia.

It was a night that would set the course for his career, his love, his life. When Pete heard the DJ drop Lil Louis’ French Kiss he knew that he wanted to be up there one day, playing the tunes, at the heart of the party, making the world dance. Back in the real world, the family home in Birmingham, England, the life, the dream, felt a million miles away. Undeterred, Pete started building something local, hope of going global with the music still burning strong.

He moved from glass collecting at a local club to running his own night there and booking some of those DJs who were already living the dream (Erick Morillo, Tony Humphries, Graeme Park and Dave Seaman were regular visitors). Then progressed to Rafael’s, the biggest bar in Birmingham, for more successful DJing and promoting and a few forays into the world of guest DJing for Miss oneypenny’s, down the road.

But Ibiza was still calling and in 1996, with a little help from old school friend Steve Lawler, Pete landed a career-defining residency at Cafe Mambo. He would return every summer for the next ten years, making a varied and well-received compilation CD each season and watching as the fortunes of Mambo rose, partly thanks to his eclectic music soundtracks, and it became the best known and best loved sunset bar on the island.

Of course, being a regular behind the decks at Mambo meant Pete got to meet, and build relationships with, a healthy chunk the world’s top DJs and promoters who would come down to play pre-club parties or just hang out for sunset. That’s how he met Geoff from Renaissance and, after a little persuasion, became resident for that global party brand.

“Every week when Geoff came in I’d play a tune that I knew would make him come over. The first time he said – “I’ve only ever heard Sasha and Digweed play this, what’s your name?”

“Then Frankie Knuckles was with Geoff at Mambo, and quizzed him about who I was. The following week Danny Rampling did the same and asked for one of my mix tapes.”

Pete’s adolescent dreams were fast turning to reality. He was now the man, resident at the best bar and a regular at all the big clubs, including his beloved Amnesia, as Renaissance resident, no less.

In 2002 Pete was voted Best DJ at the prestigious Ibiza DJ Awards and since then his music has taken him on a continuous whirl of touring and recording around the world.

“I’ve been abroad virtually every weekend for the last thirteen years, and have played in over 70 countries” says Pete, still amazed that he is doing pretty much just what he always wanted, still excited by tunes he is playing.

“My connection to the crowd comes from the fact that when I’m DJing, I couldn’t be happier. I’m having the time of my life and that links me to the crowd, simple as that. We’re all on the same wavelength.”

The last couple of years have been the most successful so far for Pete. He’s found himself putting more energy and just as much passion into producing, solo and with a host of collaborators.

“It’s the music that has taken me across the world, and now I’m producing and engineering my own material it’s given me even greater freedom.”

Jonathan Cowan – Bio

Jon’s love of the music sprang from all-nighters on the floor at Aahz in Orlando. While looking for ways to continue hearing fresh tunes, the Miami Beach born entrepreneur and Hotelier, launched a production company called Generic Soul. He soon began constructing highly respected underground parties all over South Florida. Moving to Dublin, Ireland in ’95 broadened his world and upon his return i

n 1996, Jon launched Bliss Productions. The production company and fully-fledged label with major label distribution had a roster that rivaled the largest and most impressive UK Indy electronic/dance companies.Bliss initially grew in South Florida through shows at the Shadow Lounge with inaugural resident, Dave Seaman. The gigs quickly gathered momentum when Bliss moved to Groovejet and let the brakes off. Dave played monthly alongside a host of guests. Among them, Jon Cowan launched his own DJ career with a surreptitious supporting slot. “My first real gig was playing alongside one of the progressive forefathers on a Saturday night at Groovejet,” laughs Jon. “How can you beat that? It was definitely a privilege and a learning experience, too.” From there Jon went on to tour the world with such success that he landed residencies at the UK superclub Renaissance and U2 front man Bono’s club, the Kitchen in Dublin, Ireland.Bliss and Jon soon released Seaman’s Renaissance CD state side, a first for both Renaissance and Bliss. Since then, Jon has been invited to work alongside world class Dj’s such as Deep Dish, Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, Sasha, Sander Kleinenberg and John Digweed at venues like The Cross in London, Dusseldorf’s Tribehouse, Axis in Boston, Pacha Ibiza and New York and Crobar in Miami, Chicago, and New York. On the Production front Jon has one single entitled “please call” that was given a 10/10 in Dj Mag and selected Pete Tong’s essential track of the month and one Mix CD entitled “Altered States Vol 2” released through Universal Music.Next in the impressive musical resume, comes as an owner as well as resident DJ at NERVE in South Beach. During his time with Nerve, Cowan was also in charge of all music coordination and worked on the entertainment arm of the Shelborne Beach Resort. Shine is the brainchild of Cowan and Miami Host Gerry Kelly. The complex consists today with Poolside special events, weekly parties in The Lounge, and club SHINE which is open monthly parties and for special events. The Shelborne is a Deco Landmark Building that was built by Jon’s Grandfather, Samuel Friedland, in 1939 and launched December 28th 1940. By 1947 the hotel and its infamous diving board graced the cover of Life Magazine. The history of entertainment at the Shelborne spans back to the 50’s and 60’s and early 70’s when people like Dionne Warwick, Jackie Mason, Sammy Davis Junior, Liza Minnelli and many others were regular visitors to the Hotel and its club. The reinventing of the Shelborne’s historical past along with the opening of club Shine in 2005 brought the good reviews back to the Shelborne. “The best sound in Miami Beach” and “The hub of WMC” (2006 through 2010), were the accolades bestowed on the man and his hard work building the event arm at The Shelborne.Artists such as Dj/producer Jazzy Jeff, David Guetta, Sasha, Bob Sinclair, Eric Prydz,,Laurent Garnier, David Morales, Martin Buttrich, Reboot, Darren Emerson, Dubfire, Timo Maas, Lee Burridge, Sander Kleinenberg, Frankie Knuckles, Paul Oakenfold and new to the international celebrity DJ list Luciano and Loco Dice have played in the club or pool side. The Shelborne is known for its pool side events that have seen performances or hosts such as Paris Hilton, Common, Biz Markie, Macy Gray, Janes Addiction, Deborah Cox and many others.

On the personal side, WMC2010 proved Jon’s artistic ability as well as his top eye for overall production on the week as a whole at Shine & the Shelborne. Performing with Luciano, Reboot, Hernan Cattaneo, Loco Dice, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren and Sasha, Jon has secured his annual residency playing going from just opening and closing parties for Pure Pacha at Pacha Ibiza, the ultimate nightclub, to an eight show residency this summer including dates with Sasha, Mandy, Gui Boratto, Luciano, Fedde LeGrande, SOS and Sander Kleinenberg all at Pacha this summer. . Jon’s relationship with Pacha has also gone one step further as Jon is now the only American on the prestigious Pacha Ibiza agency roster.

Upcoming Dates include The Hard Rock, Pacha New York, Dance Valley 2010, several Pacha Ibiza summer performances, Pacha Buenos Aires, Green Valley Brazil, Circoloco@dc10, Ushaia Ibiza Beach Club, Aruba, an Australian tour and the Dominican Republic to name a few.

“I have known Jonathan for many years, since the days of Groovejet Miami. He has become a very good friend of mine and part of my American family. As a DJ he has fine-tuned his skills and I believe become a fantastic DJ, not only in track selection and technical ability but that uncanny way of reading a dance-floor and delivering exactly what is needed. He has become a member of that group of DJ’s that Mark Netto calll and myself the deliverers. He never fails us. we were thrilled with him as Pacha Ibiza resident for 2010 and are thrilled to welcome him back for 2011 and beyond ”
